The material – often mineral wool, polystyrene beads, or polyurethane foam – is blown into the cavity through small holes drilled in the mortar joints. The process is quick, usually completed in a few hours, and causes minimal disruption.

The process is straightforward:

  1. The installer drills small holes in the mortar joints of the external walls.
  2. The insulation material is blown into the cavity under pressure.
  3. The holes are filled and colour-matched to the existing brickwork.

The work usually takes half a day for an average semi-detached house, and you can stay at home while it’s done. You’ll likely notice the difference almost immediately – warmer walls and a cosier home.

Costs and Financial Support

The cost of cavity wall insulation in the UK typically ranges from £700 to £1,500, depending on the size and type of property. It’s a relatively low-cost improvement compared to replacing windows or upgrading the roof.
